Environmental Internship Opportunity

Mickey Leland Environmental Internship Program

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is the environmental agency for the state. With approximately 3,000 employees in 16 regional offices, TCEQ strives to protect our state’s natural and human resources consistent with sustainable and economic development. Our goal is clean air, clean water, and safe management of waste. To achieve our mission, TCEQ is an active supporter of a well-qualified and diverse workforce. To that end, our internship programs enable us to recruit talented students interested in protecting the environment.

TCEQ is currently seeking students enrolled in environmental and/or science related disciplines to participate in our 2012 Mickey Leland Environmental Internship Program (MLEIP). Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in biology, chemistry, geology, engineering, public health, and public administration are strongly encouraged to apply. MLEIP is a paid full-time summer internship experience that provides participants an opportunity for hands-on learning and professional development in our air, water, and waste programs. While most MLEIP interns are assigned to the TCEQ for this twelve week internship, others are assigned to state agencies or private sector employers who sponsor the program. Ultimately, specific internship assignments are made in consideration of the student’s knowledge, skills, and abilities, and in accordance with the qualifications requested by the manager or supervisor.
