Targets

A list of the past, current, future targets.  Please be specific when you add targets to this list including the target function, potential aptamer application, collaboration, etc.  It is easiest to just copy/paste from a former target when adding new ones to keep consistent formatting.

Hemoglobin & sickle cell variant
  • Function: Protein in red blood cells responsible for oxygen binding.
  • Collaboration: None
  • Application: An aptamer could help to diagnose sickle cell anemia in infants
  • Pools and people:
  • Notes: Selections using RNA worked quite well with 12% binding after round 4.  DNA selections failed to produce binding variants

Fibrinogen
  • Function: Protein produced in the liver which serves as a blood clotting factor.
  • Collaboration: None
  • Application: An aptamer could function as a therapeutic to limit blood clotting similar to thrombin aptamers
  • Pools and people:
  • Notes: Selections using RNA worked quite well with 20% binding after round 6.  DNA selections have not proven successful.
