Ecology Research Opportunity
I'm an EEB graduate student working on thermal adaptation in the
Glanville Frititllary butterfly. Broadly, I'm investigating how this
and other similar species may respond to climate change. The work
involves multiple aspects of ecology, evolution and behaviour. I'm
looking for an undergrad assistant who would be interested in helping
out this semester, and possibly beyond (summer and fall). The position
is unpaid, but there is the option of registering for research hours.
The time commitment will vary over the course of the semester. In some
weeks there will be no work at all, while in others there may be as
much as 10-15 hours of work.

Right now, I have two questions.
- How do you upload documents onto Blackboard? When I log in and go to the 51705 course page, there is no link that will allow me to upload anything except through emailing.
- This isn't really a question, more of a confirmation. I tried to take the CW 512 safety training course and I think the link listed on the syllabus is incorrect.

Signing out procedures

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to reiterate the importance of signing in/out. It's super important that you log in your hours so that we can keep track of your progress. If you perform an experiment and spend 3+ hours in lab but you don't get signed out, it's as if you were never there.
Also, you MUST stick around to get a mentor/TA/RE's signature. It's hard to verify that you did what you were supposed to be doing in lab if you put down your hours without someone there to sign off on it.
Don't be afraid to come up to us with the sign out sheet and ask us to sign. It's a lot easier for me to keep track of your hours each week.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns! That's why we're here :)

do not think about planetary science. Here is an opportunity to explore
a different field.
The First Undergraduate Planetary Science Research Conference will be
held on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 9:00 am to 5:00pm, in association
with the 2011 Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC), The
Woodlands, TX.
The Conference includes:
Panels on “How to Choose the Grad School Right for You,” “Alternative
Careers in Science,” and “Women in Planetary Science;”
Poster sessions where students will present their posters to other
students and to the scientific community;
“Meeting Mentors” will pair students with a scientist for part of the
LPSC meeting, so students can learn how to engage at a scientific
conference;
Opportunity to meet other undergraduate researchers, graduate
students, and scientists.
Undergraduate students currently conducting research in planetary
sciences, astrobiology, and lunar sciences are eligible.

BIOSCIENCE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM (BABS)
The College of Natural Sciences Career Services center (NSCS) invites

The Challenge: Tell a story about undergraduate research in the College of Natural Sciences in film, photography, sound, animation, illustration, words, html, or whatever other medium takes your fancy.
The Theme: Explore a scientific relationship between two people, a person and a bacterium, a student and her laboratory, a mentor and a mentee, a research stream, or any other two things, creatures, spaces, or realities.
The prize: A prize. Seeing your work featured on the websites of the college and the university. Feeling good about yourself. And $50!
The constraints: Must be scientifically accurate. Must involve research done by an undergraduate in the College of Natural Sciences. Must be interesting.
1st Prize: $50
2 Honorable Mention Prizes: $25
The winning entries, as well as other outstanding submissions, may be featured on the websites of the College of Natural Sciences and The University of Texas at Austin.
Winners will be selected by March 1.
